Speaking on the With Chude podcast, Akintola said she was angered by the way Nigerians attacked people for supporting candidates different from their preferred choice.
She particularly recalled the backlash directed at veteran actress Joke Silva over her support for Tinubu, saying the treatment influenced her decision to openly declare her own support for the then-APC presidential candidate.
“They bullied Aunty Joke to the point that someone wrote something that was so inhumane. So, I made a video and said, ‘I’m also supporting Tinubu, kill me, let me see if you can change my mind,’” she said.
Akintola urged Nigerians to respect one another’s political choices, stressing that people have the right to support different candidates without being bullied or harassed.
“Nigerians are annoying. Don’t bully other people. We have our rights to differences of opinion. You don’t like this man, cool, you have the right not to like him. You prefer this person, good for you. But don’t bully others,” she added.
The actress said political disagreements should not prevent people from expressing their personal choices, noting that people may hold different views while remaining entitled to their opinions.
